"Wait" message while java is loading

Some of our customers have a slow connection and it takes several seconds for the java to load. What is the best way to put a "please wait" message in place while the applet is loaded?

I have noticed occasionally there will be a Java logo with a ring running around it sometimes on some browsers - but this is few and far between. Is there a way to force that to appear?

You can display your own animated GIF for JRE 1.6:
<PARAM NAME="image" VALUE="loading.gif">
<PARAM NAME="boxbgcolor" VALUE="#FFFFFF">
For JRE 1.5, the GIF is dispplayed but not animated.
